Day in the Park Lunch

The plan was to go to the pool today but it was closed (due to something you don't want to read about on a food blog...) so we headed to the park instead to play at the playground and in the fountain. Fun times!
This was 3.75 year old A's lunch. Peanuts, cheese flowers, chocolate cake from Fathers day, carrots, rice crackers and raspberries. As A shoved three cheese flowers in his mouth at once I asked him "did you see that I cut the cheese onto flower shapes?" His answer "huh?" :) Yes, I definitly do it for my own entertainment... Do any boys appreciate stuff like that or are they all like mine?
7.75 year old S and E had lunches like this one above. Cream cheese and jelly sandwiches, grapes, chocolate cake and cucumber slices. I go back and forth about cutting the crusts off their sandwiches. E ate his today but S threw his away. Sometimes I think they eat more of the sandwich if I cut the crusts off but then other times they still leave a strip of "crust" even if I cut the actual crusts off! Maybe it just depends on how hungry they are.
Here is my lunch - some coconut milk yogurt I was anxious to try (though ended up not being fond of), a corn muffin, grapes and a nectarine.

MTM - Snack for Three Boys

I dug out the 12 cut muffin tin today for the boys to have for a snack. By making a row for each of them we can avoid the "he ate all the ______ and I didn't get any" :)

They each had mango, raspberries, cheese, and veggie bootie. Yummy!

Circle Sandwiches for the Pool

I packed some lunches to take to the pool tomorrow.
The boys had circle sandwiches with berries.
I had a deconstructed sandwich. Since I was packing these the night before, I didn't want to make the sandwich. I figured it would get soggy by tomorrow. So I packed bread, cheese, tomato, pickles and mustard in the little penguin to make up a sandwich tomorrow. And some blueberries on the side. Hope this works out ok...
Here are lunches for me and the three boys along with an extra container of fruit since I know they will want more.

Lunch for Daddy

I realized this morning that I have not made a lunch all week and had nothing to link to on "What's for Lunch Wednesday" but then I realized I could pack lunch for my husband this morning, take a picture and count that. My husband usually packs his own lunch. I'm sure he appreciates when I pack it for him although he will roll his eyes when he sees I packed it "like the boys" (ie bento like) :)
For lunch today he had pistachios, a peach, a nectarine, a turkey sandwich, some raw carrots and broccoli and two cookies. I think I got this box at Target long ago. It packs up nicely with an ice pack between the two layers.

MTM - Berries and Cheese

It's time for another Muffin Tin Monday! I made this berries and cheese snack tin for my three boys to share and ended up having to fill it twice. I should have used my 12 cup tin I guess!

The boys had: On top = Strawberries, peaches, blackberries On Bottom: Cheddar cheese, blueberries and mozzarella cheese stick pieces.

We just love all the berries of summer. And I REALLY love that I found organic strawberries for $0.99 a pound this week. I will be buying a bunch!

The LAST day of School!

Yeah I kind of got messed up on my count down... But today IS the last day of school. I can't believe my twins are now second graders. This year was full of challenges - being in school all day, being in separate classes etc. But the boys handled it with such grace. I think I had a way harder time with it than they did. They had a great year - learned a lot and learned to love school (even as they are THRILLED that it is summer break!) I am so proud of them.
For their last snack as first graders (sniff) they had raisin bread with cream cheese and apple slices.
For lunch they had pizza, berries and carrot sticks.

What I've learned form packing lunches regularly this year...

1. The boys eat a LOT of pizza!
2. I was pretty good about packing a lot of fruits but almost no vegetables.
3. I really DID for the most part enjoy making their lunches each day. I think knowing their were people out there checking out the blog really helped - so thanks!

I'm sure I will have opportunities over summer break to pack lunches so I will continue to post occasionally. Whats For Lunch At Our House is hosting a "What's For Lunch Wednesday" with an opportunity to share lunches so I hope to do that along with some more Muffin Tin Mondays

Happy Summer Everyone!

2 more days of school!

Snack today was sunflower seeds and raisins in the oval container and grapes and a maple sugar candy. The maple sugar candy is from Mom's special (and not often shared) stash. :)
Lunch was a cream cheese and jelly bagel, apples, cucumber, cauliflower and a lemon bar square.
